Abstract Circulatory standstill after cardiopulmonary arrest causes generalized tissue ischemia. Restoration of adequate organ perfusion after successful CPR, is associated with systemic release of cytokinesThese in turn cause expression of adhesion molecules in the cell membrane thereby facilitating widespread leukocyte-endothelial interaction. The widespread leukocyte- endothelial interaction are thought to be of paramount importance in the pathogenesis of multiple organ dysfunctions. Shedding of the adhesion molecu~es produces soluble forms that can be detected in the plasma including sP and sE selectins(3). |
