Abstract The main object of this study is to determine the contact pressure under rectangular plates resting on an elastic soil foundation such as raft foundation or base of a tank resting on a soil the available trials concerning this problem have been classified according to the idealization system specified for the interaction between the soil and the plate the contact pressure under rectangular plates with rigid edge beams and loaded at the edges are determined finite difference technique is used a study on the effect of various factors involving contact pressure under rectangular plates side ratio of the plates its rigidity relative to supporting soil and depth of the compressible layer is presented a comparative style is also made for solving the plate in bending problem by different methods digital computer is used for calculations. |
