Abstract

The intraradicular reinforcement of structurally compromised upper central incisors in children had been advocated for endodontically treated teeth with thin remaining wall. The purpose of the clinical part of this study was to evaluate TPH Spectrum composite resin, Dyract and Vitremer both clinically and radiographically as intraradicular reinforcing materials. The in vitro part of the study was divided into two parts, the first one aimed to determine fracture resistance of reinforced flared canals, and the second was to evaluate the shear bond strengths of the reinforcing material to root dentin. Clinically, thirty children patients (aged from 11 to 14 years), with flared upper central incisors indicated for root canal therapy and post/core treatment were classified into three groups, ten patients for each. Each group was reinforced by one of the three reinforcing materials. The control group includes five patients with upper central incisors indicated for root canal therapy and post/core treatment without reinforcing materials (not flared). All reinforcing materials were polymerized using Smooth Light Transilluminating Plastic Post (SLTP DIP-5). Grooved Burnout Plastic Posts (DCP-5) were used to fabricate Nickel-chrome posts and cores and all groups were restored by temporary acrylic jacket crowns. The results of the clinical evaluation showed that, all teeth appeared normal during follow up and the mucosa showed no changes in any group of study except two cases (one in Dyract.
