Abstract Thus, this study was carried out on Nile alluvial non-calcareous soil and a calcareous one, which represent wide areas of the promosing agricultural lands in Egypt aiming at spotlighting on the importance of cation exchange reactions and the selectivity coefficients on three different aspects. The first is soil sodicity and the amount of adsorbed Na on exchange complex that result due to irrigation with sodic waters, by means of Na-Ca exchange isotherm. The second is the fertilization with potassium, by means of K-Ca exchange isotherm. The final one is the contamination with non-nutritive heavy metals, e.g. cadmium by means of Cd-Ca exchange isotherm. |
