Abstract The work in this thesis is initiated to study the stalk- and root-rot and the culmicolous smut which affect both yield and qualitys consequently sugar production per unit area in order to achieve a better understanding of sugar cane diseases and their control. Samples showing different stalk- and root-rot symptoms were currently collected during the 1981 and 1982 seasons from Giza, Minya and Quena governorates. The commercial varieties nco 310 and g.t. 54c9 are periodically checked starting one month after planting for autumn and spring plantings up to harvesting. Considered symptoms are failure of germination, root and stalk discolouration, stunting and yellowing of the plants. The successive ratoons are similarly checked. |
