Abstract

In the first experiment, 3 mature male sheep and 3 mature male goats are used. Animals are fed a diet with a r/c ratio of 40/60% (rice straw /co-op-feed).they are fed at the level of 2.5% of their body weight (im basis).nutrients digestibility, nitrogen balance and rumen parameters (ph value, total vfa’s concentration and total nitrogen) are determined. In the 2nd. Experiment, iN vitro dry matter disappearance (ivimd) of rice straw, maize stalks and cotton stalks (all represent poor quality roughage sources) are determined in a media collected from rumen of sheep or goat. Also, ivimd are determined for berseem hay and alfalfa haY which represent good quality roughage and sugar beet pulp, soybean straw and sorghum hay which represent medium quality forages. Animals are fed the same ration used in vivo study. In the 3rd. Experiment, different sources of foodstuffs are incubated in the rumen of cannulated sheep or goats using the dacron bag technique for determination of the dissappearance of in situ dry matter (dm), organic matter (om), crude fiber (cf). Degradability of rice straw and berseem hay and degradation of the cell wall constituents of rice straw and berseem hay are also measured the sources are poor quality roughages, medium quality forages, goad quality roughages, source of energy and source of nitrogen.
