Abstract

The bovine mastitis is an important serious disease because it affects cows health and milk production (either quantity or quality milk or both). This disease uses economic iosses due to low milk production which uses bad growth and mortality of suckling calves spe-ially when they do not obtain milk colastrum after par-turition. So several workers induced various methods :or the rapid diagnosis of mastitis In this study a total of 400 fresh milk sanroles were taken apparent ly he a1 thy dairy cows, reared in the of the faculty of agriculture, Alexandria . These bovine milk sample s were. subjected to bacteriological examination as well as 4 rapid field tests side, Negretti tind Hotis tests ). The results of this study showe d that: 74 of the apparently healthy cows has.subclinical mastitis. Staph. aureus ranked first in its perecentt!.ge of 1solation.(45.95), followed by .Staph. epidermidis ( 22.97 ) C. bovis (1.35 ) , E. coil (16.22), E. agglumerus (9.46), and C. diversus ( 4.05 ). J) fill organisms except C. bovis we:re isolated as single or mixed with each other, while C. bovis was one isolated singly. 4) There was not significant difference between the orgnnisrns isolated from fore or hind qUlJ,rters ( either left or right) of the udder. j)T~ bacteriological methods gave positive results in 46.75 of samples, C.M.1’. gave 43.50, White side test gave :56.75. Negretti test gave 56.75and Hotis, test gave 34.5C. b) The highest agreement (between results cfcultreandtheresults of the used tests) was between the culture and Hotis test (73.25), followed by Negretti test (63.0) and Schnlm test (55.25, while Vlhite side test ranked, last and its agreement was 48.25. 7) In this study the Hot is te at gave the highe st pe 1’ centage of positivity( 67.74’/0 ) among the other investigated rapid field tests when the milk lJi;nmles revealed Staph. aureus, while the Negretti test gave the highest percentare of positivity (85 & 100, ) when the milk samples revealed E. coli and C. diversus :respectively. I) All the isolated strainn were sensitive to ecythro-mycine (l5meg ), tetracycline ( 30 mcg ),a .:npic illin (lorncg ) and B treptomyc in ( 10 mcg).. According to the r coul tu of this ~study it has been concluoed that: l-Apparently healthy cows might hide subcl inical mastitis in a great percentage and that infection mdY be caused by one or more organ isms in t he same or other Quarters. l)The results of the rapid tests namely C.M.T., White side, Negretti and Hotis tests are not usually cor !’elating to those of t he more aec ura te b acter iolcgical roothods and that the results of the Hotis showed the highest agreement Vii th th ose of cultural met hod El. )) All the is alated strains were seDS it i ve to the e ry... thrlJmyc we, tetracycline,a mpicillin and streptomy-cin.
