Abstract Gossypol is a yellow coloring matter which is early isolated as a crude pigment from cottonseed oil longmore marchlewski 1899 crystallized the acetic acid dervative of a compound from the same source which he named gossypol to designate its origin genus gossypium family malvaceae and its chemical nature as a phenol studies of changes in the gossypol content of cottonseed during different stages of development of the bols showed that the greatest increase in gossypol occurs between the time of maturity of the boll and time it is about to open adams et al 1960. |
