Abstract

Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women, and is the leading cause of death from cancer among women. There is widespread agreement that mammography is currently the single most effective imaging modality for diagnosis of breast disease. The false-negative rate for mammography is estimated to be approximately 5 to 15 percent. The aim of this work was to recognize the various factors that result in a se negative mammogram in symptomatic patients. This study was conducted on fifty patients with an age ranged from 12 67 years with a mean age of 39.7+/-11.068. Patients were presented with different symptoms. Lumps were the presenting complaint in 22(44%) patients while in the remaining 28 patients, 22 (440/0) complained from mastalgia and 6 (12%) from nipple discharge. All mammographic Views of the fifty patients were negative for normality. They were further evaluated by ultrasound followed by biopsy. the current study, in 34 (68 0/0) patients with a mean age of 42.57+/-7.47 the mammographic parenchymal pattern was of the- semi-dense pattern, in 3(26%) patients with a mean age of 28.15+/- 10.28 the mammographic enchymal pattern was of the dense pattern and in the remaining 3(60/0) .patients with a mean age of 56.33+/-10.50 the mammographic parenchymale was of the fatty pattern.
