Abstract

Background:Evidence is accumulating to consider erectile dysfunctuin (ED) as a vascular disorder. Moreover, it is described as the tip of the iceberg of vascular syndromes including coronary artery disease, cerebrovascular accidents and peripheral arterial disease Aim of the work : Assessment of the prevalence of ED among CAD patients Patients and methods : This study included 50 male patients referred for SPCET . Patients were divided into two groups, SPECT+VE and SPECT-VE (control) according to the results of SPECT . Both groups were assessed for ED by using the IIEF-5. Results: 32% of our CAD patients had ED versus 4% of the control group. Risk Factors distribution has no significant differences between the SPECT+ve patients with or without ED . 50% of ED+ve cases had transient ischemic dilatation of left ventricular cavity versus 29% of ED-ve. Duke tredmill score (DTS) was found to be more deteriorated among ED+ve than ED-ve patients indicating more severe CAD. The present study found that patients who take aspirin have low incidence of erectile dysfunction, however further studies are recommended to clarify this issue. Conclusion: erectile dysfunction is highly prevalent among patients with coronary artery disease.
