Abstract CHF is a common disease in the elderly that causes high rates of morbidity and mortality. Diastolic dysfunction is responsible for 33% of cases with CHF in elderly. Diastolic dysfunction is multifactorial and diabetes mellitus plays an important role in the development of diastolic dysfunction through development of diabetic cardiomyopathy . The aim of this study is to study the relationship between diabetes mellitus and diastolic dysfunction in the elderly. So 60 elderly individuals were involved in the current study. 30 of them were diabetics and the rest were normal at the time of the study. All of them underwent assessment of diastolic function using echocardiography. It was concluded that the presence of diabetes mellitus is a risk factor for the development of diastolic dysfunction. Also, the mean duration of diabetes mellitus played a role in the occurrence of diastolic dysfunction. |
