Abstract While works leukotrienes levels and on the therapeutic usefulness of anti- leckotrienes in a topic asthma are numerable , those in non – atopic are scanty and contradictory . Few authors found almost equal urinary LTE 4 excretion in atopic and non atopic asthmatics in attacks . and those selective cysteiny l leukotriene receptor antagonists were equally effective in both types . The scantiness of work in this field leaves the door widely open and made more work on this point a necessity. Our work is thus meant to measure the plasma leukotriene levels in atopic and non- atopic asthmatic children and to correlate them to severity of asthma exacerbation in both groups. Participants and methods: The study was done on 90 children ( 43 males and 47 females with a mean age of 8.39± 2.29 years) with acute asthma exacerbation and 15 healthy children of matched age and sex as controls. Based on prick skin tests the asthmatic patient were divided into atopic and non- atopic ( 45 each) .Each group had equal numbers of patients with mild moderate . |
