Abstract T. vaginalis infection was associated with different clinical presentations, which when used alone in the diagnosis of trichomoniasis, a large percent of infected women would not be diagnosed and need other diagnostic tests to pick the infected cases. The direct microscopic examination is a practical widely used method, and although it is specific , its sensitivity is low. Culture for T. vaginalis is a relatively inexpensive option with high sensitivity but requires specific culture media and inoculation period which may reach up to seven days. Molecular methods may provide the most sensitive and specific assays for diagnosis compared with other methods as wet mount and culture, as amplification of target DNA sequences of T. vaginalis by PCR which is simple, rapid , easy to perform, highly sensitive. But it is expensive and can`t be used for routine diagnostic purposes. |
