Abstract
This study included 100 patients with unstable fractures of the pelvis. 16 of them died during the course of treatment due to their injuries or due to complications of treatment.
9 patients could not be followed up because they moved to another city or country , hence 75 patients attended the final follow up.
The age of the patients ranged from 18 to 89 years with an average of 35 years. Males (55%) were commoner than females
(45%) with a ratio of 3:2.

Road traffic accidents were responsible for most of the cases in this series (76%). Car occupants constituted half of them (38%) .
Pennal and Tile classified pelvic fractures according to their mechanism of injury into lateral compression , antero-posterior compression and vertical shear injuries. Complex injury pattern may be seen. The commonest injury seen in this
study was lateral compression injury (51%).
