Adiponectin is an adipocytokine that is exclusively expressed and secreted from adipose tissue. Its levels are low in obesity and increase after weight loss. Its role as a protective adipokine is suggested by low levels in states of insulin resistance, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes In addition, it is believed to have anti-inflammatory and antiatherogenic properties. This study was carried out to demonstrate the effect of experimentally-induced hypogonadism on adiponectin level in both sexes and whether sex hormones and their metabolic effects associated with < sexual maturation in reproductive period affect adiponectin or not and to explore the possible mechanisms of interaction between the sex hormones
and Adiponectin. Therefore, this research was applied on serum analysis of adiponectin and the metabolic parameters in adult male and adult female rats that were divided into control male, and female adult rats, sham operated male and female adult rats, gonadictomized male and female adult rats andgonadictomized with hormonal replacement (testosterone for male rats and estrogen and progesterone for female rats).
