Abstract

aIt is well known by now that sports practicing are beneficial n01 body systems but also for the mood and the mental well being. Sport I fur competition is a different process; it lasts many days a week, many month, many months a year, and many years through lifetime. Thus 1 soul are both exposed to enormous stress which could be fatal harnJj 6th1~te does not rest and eat probably. Winning in the athletic field is a time consuming process, wh conflict with studying or even go to School! College. So, it is rare t highly graduate among top athletes through some sports. Unfortunately, tl Un-educated athletes became the ideal guides to many junior athletes eager to be top athletes one day. Using nutritional supplements, steroids and other ergogenics are a common practice among athletes absence of scientifically sound nutritional knowledge. Further health ha .. ~ due to many dangerous weight loss techniques that are used by shortly pre-competitions. The lOC recently forbids using caffeine; diure Jaxatives after the sudden tragic death that was observed among top athll to their abuse to those substances. Moreover, the absence of scien lutritiOnal supervision among athletes results in spreading wrong nu ,knowledge, and hence, wrong nutritional choices. aimed to evaluation of nutrient intake and nutritional cion among athletes in the city of Alexandria. This study was implemented in five randomly chosen sporting clubs in , of Alexandria, ftom each club, a list of competitor, over 16 years old was obtained, then 30 athletes were randomly chosen, 24 athletes did lD1nplete the study, thus the final sample number was 126 athletes. chnique used in this study was based on interviewing the athletes using a ed questionnaire to obtain information related to: Heigh~ weight, skin fold thickness, sex, educational level, occupation, type of sport, training duration, utritional information field study was held out at July 1997 and ended at December at the same . data was then coded, tabulated and statistecally analyzed.
