Abstract

The study was carried out in Assiut University Hospital on 80 full term primigravidas. All patients received epidural analgesia for relief of labor pain. According to the analgesic drugs, patients were classified into 4 groups, group (1) received bupivacaine (0.25%), Group (II) received bupivacaine (0.25%) with morphine (3 mg), group (III) received bupivacaine with fentanyl (50 ug), and group iv received bupivacaine (0.25%) with morphine (1.5mg) plus fentanyl (25 ug).
All patients managed and followed in a eill equipped room to allow early and easier interference with any ongoing complication. Routing follow up and monitoring of the mother, the fetus, and the progress of labor were performed as mentained before.
Results showed that all the 4 methods provided good relief for labor pain, but the quality of analgesia was excellent after the addition of opioids.
