Abstract

There is growing recognition that CHF caused by a predominant abnormality in diastolic function is common and causes significant morbidity and mortality, so it is highly and rightly receiving a great attention (Vasan et al., 2000).

Hypertension is one of the main causes of diastolic function impairment as it causes increase in LV wall thickness with increased chamber stiffness and impaired myocardial relaxation (Smith et al., 1998). With this diastolic dysfunction, the stiffer non compliant LV chamber operates on higher pressure-volume relationship compared with that of normal ventricle making these patients sensitive to small volume changes that can increase the diastolic pressure to the point where pulmonary congestion with or without pulmonary oedema occurs even at relatively normal LV volume (Cuccolo et al., 2002).

The effect of exercise training on CVS has interested physiologists and cardiologists for many years with suggestion that, physical exercise training is considered one of the most important peripherally acting therapies in LV diastolic dysfunction (+ HF) especially if underlying hypertension is present (Conn et al., 2004).
