Abstract

The present study was carried out with the aim of assessing the nutritional and metabolic factors in rcls­ tion to atherosclerotic coronary heart disease. It was essentially a retrospective study in out-patient clinics of Health Insurance of Alexandria Govornorate. Sampling:1.. A purposi ve sample of 192 coronary heart disease ,ma le patients with typical electrocardiographic changes were chosen for the study. Patients with diabetes mellitus, cardiac failure, nephrotic syndrome, and pationts without typical electrocardiographic features were oxcluded. 2- A control group of 56 male subj octs matched for age wore CilOSel1. They were free from clinical and electro­ cardiographic evidence of past or present ischa emic heart disease, other atherosclerotic manifestations and. diabetes melli tus. Tho clinics of the study were seleoted by cimple random raethod. The subjects of the study were equally distribuJ~od to represent these clinics. Ischaemic heart disease patients were selected from the internal medicine clinics, and the control subj ects were chosen from ou-c­ patient clinics of minor surgical operations. Biochemical analyses were done on a reprcsentative sub-sample of 94 patients and 47 control subjects. Every subject included was subjected to a compre­ hensive clinical and nutritive survey, which could be summarized in the following steps: 1...
