Abstract A cross-sectional survey of 402 teachers of primary and preparatory schools, and 380 girl students of the faculty of Education was undertaken in Assiut from October 1995 till March 1996; to assess their knowledge, attitude and practice of female circumcision. The study instrument was a structured questionnaire collected by interviewing each subject. The results reveal a statistically significant difference in the prevalence rate of FGM among both groups being 91.3% and 84.5% respectively. Origin (uban/rural), religion, education of teachers father and mother were all significantly associated with FGM in the bivariate analysis; but in the logistic regression only religion and teacher`s mother`s education remained significantly associated with FGM practice, P>0.001. |
