Abstract M alnutrition is a major problem in children with cancer, the reported incidence varies from 6% to as high as 50% depending upon the nature of the malignancy, the size, location and stage of the disease. Assessment of nutritional status is multidimensional and can be evaluated by dietary, clinical/anthropometric and biochemical methods. This work was carried out during the period from April 2007 to February 2008 and comprised 80 patients with malignancy from Children Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University and National Cancer Institute. The aim was to asses their nutritional status, by anthropometry (weight, height, Z-score of weight for height, TSFT and MUAC) and biochemical methods (albumin, prealbumin) and to evaluate 40 of them after induction chemotherapy Patients were subjected to full history, thorough clinical examination and laboratory assessment by CBC, prealbumin, albumin. |
