Abstract This study included 60 patient with 68 diabetic foot infection admired in Assiut University Hospital in the period from January 2003to January :’JO•+’ This study included II female and 49male, Their ages ranged from 20:. years old to 73years old .The duration of diabetes mellitus ranged from 20 years to 27 years .The fasting blood glucose on admission was recorded .The risk factors encountered among these patients were smoking in 6.7%,. hypertention in 58.3%, coronary artery disease in 31.66%, cerecrovascular disease in 10% and renal impairment in 6.7%. We have classified our cases according to the Modified Wagner’s diabetic foot grading system into 5grades . All patients were controlled medically and parental antibiotics were started soon after admission. For all patients the routine laboratory investigations were performed. Doppler studies including ankle/brachial index were done to verify normal arterial blood supply Biplane foot x-ray was performed for all patients. A culture from the lesion was taken from each lesion, were examined both aerobically, anerobically and the antibiotic sensitivity were decided. The surgical plan was decided according to the merits of each Our overall results were good to excellent in 55 lesion : 50.9%) and poor in 13 lesion ( 19. 1%). |
