Abstract Orthopedic surgeries are usually associated with perioperative pain which is thought to be an indirect cause of adverse effects on various organ systems. The administration of a combination of local anesthetic and opioid neuraxially is an excellent technique for managing postoperative pain as the additive effects leads to a smaller dose of each drug and better analgesia than either drug alone. Ropivacaine is a long acting aminoamide local anesthetic, which is chemically homologous with bupi-vacaine but is less arrhythmogenic than bupivacaine at superacovulsant dose and has a favorable lower motor blocking profile. Fentanyl is a potent synthetic opioid and is extremely fat soluble. |
