Abstract The study included 100 cases of diarrhea associated with respiratory tract infection. They were admitted to the pediatric department Assiut University during the peroid from June 1984 untill september 1985. Their ages ranged from 3-24M-They included 67 males and 33 females. Also 10 apparently healthy children of matchable age group were taken as control. Full clinical assessement including the severity of diarrhea, severity of debydration, feeding pattern, nutritional status as well as respiratory tract infection was done. Cases and control were subjected to glomerular function tests including blood urea, serum creatinine and creatinine Clearance. Out of the 100 cases studied 60 cases received gentamicin in a dose of 6mg/kg/day intramuscularly and 40 cases received cefotaxime in a dose of 50 mg/kg/day intramusularly. The glomerular function tests were repeated again after clinical improvement of diarrhea and dehydration at the end of the 4th day of antimicrobial therapy. |
