Abstract

Increasing the demand of the society for health care , the increasing population in need of quality nursing care place a grave responsibility upon those faculties schools of nursing preparing teachers of nursing . evaluation to teaching effectiveness is a subject of debate on many fields . Clinical experience is important in nursing education therefore , it must be effective and efficient
Clinical teachers play a clinical role in assisting nursing students to apply theory they learnt in the classroom , into practice within the clinical environment. In addition , clinical teachers can assist students to develop personally and professionally as well as develop[ vital clinical nursing skills within the classroom , clinical laboratories and within clinical placement s. These values can be enhanced through educational programs developed to meet their particular learning needs , providing information on a range of topics ecompassing both nursing and educational factors . Preceptorship program as one of an educational programs have the ability to influence the effectiveness and quality of clinical education and ultimately on student learning outcomes in clinical settings
A preceptor can be a very r4warding experience . A preceptor requires specific knowledge , skills and values , Preceptors can make student education more effective by arranging a variety of structured learning experiences . A successful clinical teaching experience could be achieved by ensuring the quality and effectiveness of clinical preceptors
The study was carried out in order to measure the perceived effectiveness of clinical preceptors as rated by nurse- interns, clinical preceptors and staff nurses at Alexandria University Hospitals and to examine significant difference and commonalities among their perceptions of effective clinical preceptors
The study was conducted at the Alexandria University Hospitals where nurse-interns apply their on- year nursing intership program. These hospitals include : Main University Hospital , Pediatric Hospital , Maternity Hpospital , and El- Hadara University Hospital A Convenient sample ( N- 273) comprised three groups : all available nurse – interns ( 187) Clinical preceptors (40) and (46) of nursing staff as assigned to the clinical setting where nurse-interns receive their training
Tool Of the study:
Nursing clinical perceptions ” Effectiveness Questionnaire TOOl
This tools was developed based on adaptation and modifications of the Nursing Clinical Teacher Effectiveness Inventory( NCTEI) developed by Mogan & knox ( 1985) and on synthesis of several s urvery instruments for relative discriptos of effective clinical teaching behaviors in nursing
The ( NCPEQ) consists of five sections and has a total of 48 interns . Each section was designed to address a discrete components of effective characteristic of clinical nursing preceptors namely : teaching ability ( 16 items ) m nursing competence ( 10 items ) , evaluation skills (9 items) , interpersonal relationships (6 items ) and personality traits (7 Items) it used.
