The use of additives and modifiers to improve the perfonnance of asphalt mixtures has been employed in the highway industry nom almost the first use of hot mix asphalt. Modifiers take many different forms. Many modifiers change the properties of the asphaltic binder. These modifiers include: polymers, latex, and many chemical additives. There are many modifiers that change the properties of the mixtures such as: fillers, fibers, and some polymers. The main reasons that asphalt modification has become more accepted are the traffic factors which have increased (including heavier loads, higher volumes and higher tire pressures), and the higher costs which have created a tendency to construct thinner pavements. The main object of using such additives is to obtain high stability and a durable pavement, in order to increase its service life, decrease the required maintenance and save the required construction materials.
‎This study investigated the effect of adding some modifiers on the properties of the hot asphaltic mixtures under some conditions, especially the temperature and storage time (aging). The investigated additives are rubber, sulfur (SEA), cement dust, and styrene- butadiene rubber (SBR).
‎The results indicate that the addition of both SBR and sulfur can improve Marshall Characteristics as well as the compressive strength. The addition of cement dust and rubber to the asphaltic paving mixture did not show promising results with regard to Marshall Characteristics and unconfined compressive strength.
‎The addition of rubber as a reinforcing material to the asphaltic beam mixes showed a detrimental effect on the bending resistance of the mix.
‎Finally, correlations between Marshall Characteristics and unconfined compressive strength under the investigated conditions were developed
