Abstract Two experiments were carried out in the present work: The first experiment was conducted to study the physiological and biochemical behaviour in Peltophorum africanum germinating seeds for five days in light and dark conditions at laboratory temperature(25±2°C) The effect of five different growth regulators i.e. GA3 at 10, 20 and 30 ppm, ccc at 10, 20 and 30 ppm, IAA at 5, 10 and 20 ppm pyrogallol at 5, 10 and 20 ppm coumarin at 5, 10 and 20 ppm on both these germinating seeds were also studied. Before treatments the seeds were soaked in concentrated sulphuric acid for obtaining 100 % germination because they had hard seed coats. The fresh weight and hypocotyl length of the seedlings after 5 days from their germination were taken as a parameter for growth The amount of biochemical components in the seedlings i.e. reducing sugars, amino nitrogen, total phenols and growth materials were also taken as parameters of the biochemical changes. The second experiment was made to study the effect of the previous different five growth regulators used on the growth and the rate of photosynthetic processes in Peltophorum seedlings grown for three months under greenhous |
