Abstract This work had been carried out in the Department pf Anaesthesiology, assiut University Hospital. The study included 50 patients undergoing a variety of surgical procedures, for which endotracheal intubation using succinlcholine was required. A comparative study of the effect of succinylcholine alone and its effect after pretreatment with small doses of gallamine triethiodide and d-tubocurarine chloride on I.O.P. was made. Schitz tonometry was used to follow the changes in I.O.P. during this work. Patients were classified into three groups according to anaesthetic technique employed to avoid the associated rise in I.O.P. with the use of succinylcholine. Anaesthesia was induced in all groups with sodium thiopentone. Group I (control group) included 20 patients. They were given an intravenous inhection of succinylcholine 1mg./ kg. b.w., after induction of anaesthesia. Group II (gallamine pretreatment)included 15 patients. They were given an intravenous injection of gallamine triethiodide, c.3 mg./kg. b.w. three minutes before administration of succinylcholine. Group III (d-tubocurarine pretreatment) included 15 patients. They were given an intravenous injection of d-tubocurarine, 0.09 mg./ kg. b.w. three minutes before administration of succinylcholine. |
