Abstract

Personal hygiene is very important for quality of life issues. Good personal hygiene leads to higher level of well being which leads to healthy life. Two types of personal hygiene are known namely; laundry hygiene (which included the cleanliness of garments and bed clothing) and body hygiene including (skin, hair, hands, teeth, nails, ear, nose, feet, perineal and menstrual hygiene) . Many factors may affect personal hygiene. These factors are physical, psychological, sociocultural, environmental, economical and developmental The aim of the work was to study knowledge, attitudes and practices of secondary technical nursing school students regarding personal hygiene. This study was conducted in the six districts of kafr El shiekh Governorate namely: Fowa, Desouk , kafr Elshiekh ,AI Obour ,Beyala and Sidy Salem .In each district a secondary technical nursing school is present. In each school all the students present in the first, second and third grades were included in the study. The total sample size included (600) female students. For the execution of this work a structured self-administered ~llestionnaire was used to collect data about: Personal characteristics of the sampled student as age and academic hrrade, r­ ,socioeconomic level of the family, knowledge about personal hygiene, attitude , cl illtoward personal hygiene and hygienic practices. ~ Data were collected and analyzed in accordance with study objectives j ! using appropriate statistical techniques such as percentage, mean, standard j j i deviation, Chi square, mantel haenzel and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The results of the present study can be summarized as follows: The study sample included 600 female students from first, second and ’llhird grade in the secondary technical nursing schools in Kafr El Shiekh ! J .k 1 Governorate. The mean age of the participant was 15.962= 0.95. About 69 of ] I ID’ students sample belonged to middle socioeconomic level families, while 110.5 belonged to upper tmddle SOCIOeconomIC level famIlIes .The results ! i revealed that knowledge, attitude and practices of students regarding personal 1. ’4 ”~ 1 hygiene are adequate in some aspects and inadequate in another.
