Abstract

In the present study, the level of heavy metals (Cd, Pb, Cu, Co, Ni, Zn, Fe) were measured in water, sediment and Patella sp. collected seasonally from the Suez Bay (Northern part of the Gulf of Suez). The results indicated that Ataqa hrabour found to be the most contaminated station, particularly by Pb. The mortality test of Patella sp. by using 96h LC50 was 6.466 ppm for Cd and 79.841ppb for Cu. The activity of the ALT, AST and ALP enzymes were studied in the digestive gland of the animals after exposure to different concentrations of Cd and Cu, significant decrease was observed for the ALT activity after 7 days from exposure. Also, the tissue structure of the digestive gland of Patella sp. showed that the Cu had a damage effect on the tissues higher than those of Cd.
