Abstract

I. INTRODUCTION
The terrestrial gastropods are economic pests attacking several types of plants; vegetables, horticultural plants, field crops and others. These animal pests have chewing mouth parts and attack the plant parts.
It is well known that, in Egypt, the land mollusca species are serious economic land pests attacking plants especially in the northern coastal areas. According to the chewing mouth parts of these animals and their mucous excretion (Ryder and Bowen, 1977) they cause very noticeable holes in the leaves of the plant on which they feed and in some cases these pests gathere and stuck on other parts of the attached plant, (El-Okda, 1980 and Godan, 1983). Recently, these pests appeared to cause wide spread damage in fields and orchards in many Governorates in Egypt. Moreover, the land snails and slugs require moist conditions and feed at night when the enough requirements of the moisture and temperature are suitable particularly during winter and spring months.
According to the damage caused by the gastropods as well as their effect to decrease the agricultural yield quality, the control of these pests attracted the attention of momy investigators. The investigators applied different methods for the land snail control. These methods involved agricultural practices, the application of inorganic and organic pesticides, and others (Lange and Macleod, 1941; Barry, 1969; Judge, 1969; Shoeb, 1975; El-Okda et al., 1989; El-Shahaat and El-Okda, 1991; Abdallah et al., 1992 and 1993; El-Shahaat et al., 1995; Eshra, 2004 and El-Shahaat et al., 2005).
The present work outlines were the following :
1) Recording the infestation in some plantations in some areas at Alexandria and El-Beheira Governorates.
2) Evaluating the toxicity of certain pesticides to the snails under laboratory conditions.
3) Chemical control of some land snails in various plantations using.
a) In orgamic copper fungicides.
b) Organic pesticides related to different chemical groups.
