Abstract The pink ”bollworm does most of its damage to the green :, although buds and flower are also eaten and sometimes ovary, so that shedding invariably results. The effects shedii.ag are raely serious, because the larval population ply in the season is insufficient to affect the course of production. The main weight of the larval attack fin Is on the developing seeds in the bolls, causing arrest, |*f growth and rotting and sometimes premature and partial I jfholl opening. The affected seed-cotton gave discoloured lint L, together with seed fragments and crushed larvae, cannot fieeadiiy be separated from good seed cotton, resulting in a Fgaaerai loss of quality. Although many studies were carried out using chemicals i-Jtar control cotton bollworms, rather limited work was condu-fcted regarding the effect of the insecticides on fiber quality. |
