Abstract

Acute phase resctants are glycoproteins synthesized in the liver. Their concentrations increase or decrease in association with an inflammatory stimulus. The aim of the present study is to estimate the level of acute phase” reactant proteins namely sntitry painacid-glycoprotein,haptoglobin, complement component and immune globulins IgG,IgM and IgA)in acute diarrhoea with different degrees of dehydration. The study was conducted on 30 infants suffering from acute diarrhoea admitted to El-Chatby Hospital for children.Their ages ranged from 3to 17 months. They were 18 males and 12 females. They were classi¬fied according to Fortin and Parent system (1978) into 3 groups: mild, moderate arid severely dehydrated infants1. Ten apparently healthy infants served as controls.Besides detailed history and thorough clinical examination, the level of acute phase reactant proteins were estimated using the single radial immunodiffusion method according to the technique of Mancini et al (1965) .
