Abstract

The sneezing reflex is a protective mechanism for the respiratory passage. It has been mentioned in the old holybooks as a bad amen when Eve gave Adam the apple, while Prophet Jacob who came later regarded it a good omen when God answered his prayers. The prophet Elisha considered it as a sign of regaining life after revival of the dead shonamite boy. Mohammad the Prophet of Islam gave it some importance and advised meslems to thank God and pray by mercy for those who sneeze. In Pharonic medicine it is considered as pathological sign associated with nasal cattarrh, while Indian people
considered it as a curative procedure. So used to induce it by irritant substances to relieve headache.
