Abstract

The present study included 20 patients admitted to Urology Department at Menoufiya University Hospital within the last year. The mean age of patients was (46.3±14.69 years) and male to female ratio was 2.3 :1 The main presenting symptoms in our series was renal pain with oliguria or anuria (all cases). The duration of anuria was shorter than two days in about one half of the patients. The mean blood urea level on admission was 179.1± 97.47mg\100ml. The mean serum creatinine 9.42 ± 5.99mg\100ml. Both blood urea and serum creatinine levels are directly proportional to the duration of anuria. The duration of anuria had a relation to prognosis. The blood urea and serum creatinine levels were estimated one weak after relief of obstruction and revealed a statistically highly significant improvement in renal function in all cases (p<0.01 and T= 8.4557 for blood urea and p<0.01 and T=5.882 for serum creatinine). The ratio between B.U.N and serum creatinine in all cases on admission was more than 10 (mean = 18.25±3.42) and the ratio was below for all cases one weak after relief of obstruction, and so it is considered a good screening test in acute obstructive nephropathy.
