Abstract

Head injury is an important factor in children’s morbidity and mortality.
The noninvasiveness and ease in use of Transcranial Doppler ultrasound technique (TCD) make it an ideal tool for the assessment of changes in cerebral circulation not only for the purposes of diagnosis but also for follow-up of these children.
The aim of this study was to detect the effect of variable degrees of head trauma on cerebral blood flow parameters in MCA by the use of TCD ultrasonography .
Transcranial Doppler ultrasound was used to measure blood flow parameters in 50 children after head trauma . children were between the age of one month and 11 years old. Patients were grouped in to two groups on for mild and moderate head trauma and the other for severe head trauma according to GCS (9-15 for 1ST group & 8 or less for 2nd group) . C-T was performed for all cases.
The measured blood flow parameters are PSV,EDV,MV ,PI ,RI & S/D ratio.Patients were followed up for 5 days , and data were recorded.
