Abstract This work deails to compare the sensitivity of Elisa in detection of HCV antibodies to the HCV RNA PCR results especially in the low positive group. Also it aims to correlate the results to clinical data especially for cases which will prove to be positive by both methods,in this subject group Anti-HCV have shown that values slightly above the cutoff value have significantly greater likehood of representing false positive (HCVRNA) negative results compared with those with higher values. Patients had low positive HCV Elisa must repeat the test for antibody titer within 4 weeks intervals. Confirmatory test for diagnosis by PCR liver biopsy were recommended in patients which do not show the proper Ab titer after weeks intervals. Finally, since ALT and anti-HCV antibody testing have been shown to have several potential limitations. HCV-RNA significantly improves accuracy in the diagnosis of active HCV infection. Immuno-compromised patients should be early diagnosed to improve infection control. Taking into account the long-term consequences of HCV infection, the cost-effectiveness of HCV screening in the population by PCR method . |
