Abstract
This review describes the use of third generation oral contraceptive pills, give an account on their metabolism, and their adventages and disadvantages the study entails a briefhistory about th bills since it is introduced in the market till now entailing improved formulation, tends in oral contraceptive pill use their pharmacokinetics .it also discusses the new progestins (desogstrel, gestodene and norgestimate) . Their mode of action as a contraceptive and their matabolic effects mainly on lipid metabolism and atherogenesis and the controversy about their role in increased incidence of venous thromboembolism (vte) . the study discusses their hemostatic effects and their effects on blood pressure and myocardial infarction. it also discusses their effect on carbohydrate metabolism .
