Abstract
It is very difficult to produce a single definition of diabetes because of the heterogenous aetiologies, but it can be defined as a state of chronic hyperglycemia as a result of diminished insulin action due to its decreased availability fir effectiveness In verging combination - It is associated with the development in the long term of microangioprithies manifested by nepbropathy, retinopathy and disease.
Classification of diabetes mellitus:
There is little remaining doubt that the clinical syndrome called diabetes mellUus is heierogenous in origin. Hyperglycemla of sufficient magnitude to produce glucosuria and attendant symptoms as polyuria, polydepsia, polyphagia, weight loss, fatigue and
blurred vision arises from a number of causes. In the vast majority

of cases, one remains ignorant of Che exj>ict causative agents.
The most useful classification of diabetes is based on the clinical phen^type of the patient;^ - Insulin-dependent type (IDDM), type I.

a. Non obese
