Abstract

The main objectives of this thesis . are to develop algorithms and
digital computer programes necessary for studying load flow and
short-circuit problemes for 3-phase power systems.suffering from
different longitudinal and/or transver&e foras of unsversetry.
The thesis is written in 6 chapters, list of references and thr..
appendic.s. Chapter I is. ge~r.l introduction in which previous
work is reviewed and the .cope of t~ th@si. is giv.n.
The second chapter includes a develo~nt ~nd demonstration of
approxi.ate and .xact .. th~tical .adel. of 3-phase sya.etrical
or unsy-.etrical transMission lines in addition to • study of the
factors affecting the accuracy of the approxiaate .adel.
In chapter III phase-coordinate aatheaatical aodels of 3-phase
tran&for.ers having different winding connections are given and
the accuracy and validity of one .adel are verified under balanced
and unbalanctMI loading conditions.
In chapter IV a .atheMatical MOdel of synchronous .achine adapted
for unsy~trical load flow and Bhort-circuit studies is giv.~
Chapter V is the core of the thesis. The algorithMS and
digital computer progra.s dev.loped for solving load flow and
short-circuit proble.s for unsYMMetrical power systems are given
in it. These algorithMS and progra.s are powerful tools and can
be used to analyse unsyMMetrical power systeMS when other tools
.uch as the traditional sy.-etrical c~ponents .ethod fail. in
solving probleMS under study.
The developed prograMS are used to study the effect of different
forMS of unsy.-etry on the perforaance of a sa~ple Byst.m und.r
steady-state load flow conditions and under sy.aetrical and
unsyftmetrical short-circuit conditions. The results of this study
are presented in chapter VI.
The aain conclusions and suggestions for future work on points
needing eare study are given also in this chapter.
