Abstract

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease in which, both genetic and environmental factors play a key role. In psoriasis, tlie complex interactions between T-lymphocytes, antigen-presenting cells, keratinocytes and pro-inflammatory cylokincs and chemokines are disturbed. Transforming growth factor pi is multifunctional cytokine whicli inhibit the proliferation of most normal epithelial cells, so any disturbance in its function may contribute to the pathogenesis of psoriasis. This study was carried on 30 psoriatic patients, they included mild, moderate and severe forms of psoriasis, in addition to 10 apparently healthy subjects as a control group. All cases were collected from the Dermatology Outpatient Clinic of Menoufyia University I lospital. They were subjected to complete history taking, thorough clinical examinations (general & local). Skin biopsies were taken using local anestliesia from all eases and control and stained by (11 x & B) for diagnosis and immunohistochemical staining to detect TGFpl.
