Abstract LWI09i Chronic liver diseases are often associated with hemostatic abnormalities, that may affect platelets, coagulation as well as fibrinolytic system. Disorders of platelets in chronic liver diseases may be the result of quantitative or qualitative defects. This study was performed to clarify the changes of platelet aggregation in relation to serum albumin level in patients with chronic liver diseases. It was performed on forty persons who were classified into two groups; group (A): the test group; included twemy patients suffering from chronic liver diseases diagnosed by history, clinical examination, laboratory investigations and confirmed by liver biopsy and group (B): the control group included twenty healthy persons- The persons of both groups were subjected to platelet count and in vitro platelet aggregation. For the test group, platelet aggregation was repeated again after in vitro correction of albumin concentration. from the results obtained by the test group, it was found that, serum jbumin concentration, platelet count and in vitro platelet aggregation ire significantly decreased on comparison to the control group. It was found that platelet aggregation did not significantly change after in [2 albumin correction. These results show that serum albumin changes /e a minimal role in platelet aggregation in hypoaibuminaernic states, bstin cirrhotic patients, and would make the disease milieu, a major f |lor in directing the tendency to platelet aggregation- However, this llion may change if in vivo correction of serum albumin in cirrhotic its is to be attempted. |
