المستخلص

In this study, sulfur removal as an objectionable element in petroleum crude and distillates was the main object.
‎For great importance of petroleum and its uses several trials and developments were applied for disposal of waste elements in oil and distillate.
‎Physical, chemical and biological methods for sulfur removal were reviewed to obtain the best and efficient method and the highest rate of removal to avoid the bad effect of sulfur, which is the most popular waste in petroleum.
‎Biological method for sulfur removal by using a type of biomass (Chromatium W and Dodecane as a source of hydrocarbon was applied. Different variables were studied such as the effect of initial sulfur concentration, the temperature of the reactor and the amount of inoculums added to the reactor.
‎Several results were obtained from the previous variables, the best efficiency of removal was achieved when 20 mI. of volume of bacteria was added and I % initial sulfur concentration was dissolved in medium and temperature of medium was 50°C.
‎The highest efficiency at these conditions was 84% and the highest rate of sulfur removal was 175 mg/hr.
