Abstract Injectable hormonal contraceptives, are among the most effective methods of contraception available today. It is estimated that over 10 million women have used this method, and approximately 1.5 millions are currently using it. The aim of this work was to study the efficacy, clinical side effects arid some metabolic parameters and cytopathological changes in women using a monthly injectable as a method for contraception. The drug used in this study was medroxy progesterone acetate 25 mg and estradiol cypionate 5 mg ( cycloprovera) given by deep gluteal intra-muscular route between days 1-5 of the first treatment cycle and subsequently every 30 days for 6 months. The present study included 65 normally menstruating women selected from the outpatient of Shatby Maternity Hospital. They were adviced to attend the clinicat the scheduled follow up visits. Selected subjects were subjected to a vaginal smear examination, and a blood sample of about 10 ml was collected prior to and after |
