Abstract

A wireless mobile ad hoc network is a concept in computer communications, which means that users wanting to communicate with each other form a temporary network, without any form of centralized administration. Each node participating in the network acts both as host and router and must therefore be willing to forward packets for other nodes. For this purpose an efficient routing protocol is needed.
‎A mobile ad hoc network has certain characteristics, which imposes new demands on the routing protocol. The most important characteristic is the dynamic topology, which is due to node mobility. Nodes can change position quite frequently, which means that we need a r:outing protocol that quickly adapt to topology changes. The node in ad hoc network -~onsist of battery operated portable devices, which are often very limited in resour~es such as storage capacity, battery power and” bandwidth. This means that the routing protocol should try to minimize control traffic, such as periodic update messages.
‎The main objectives of this thesis are:
• ‎Building simulation model using the network simulator (NS2) after adding a new routing protocol, which is Ad Hoc On-demand Multi path Distance Vector (AOMDV) routing protocol to the set of routing protocols that are originally supported by the simulator.
• ‎Propose an enhancement in the Ad Hoc On-demand Multipath Distance Vector (AOMDV) routing protocol in order to improve the performance.
• ‎Based on that simulation model, the performance of the proposed enhancement in AOMDV protocol will be studied, analyzed and discussed.
