Abstract

Ginger can prevent the increase in cholesterol level following intake of
cholesterol rich diet .Ginger also is known to possess antioxidant
properties. Researches involved the plants traditionally used to support
the liver functions and treat diseases of the liver. Ginger appears to
improve gastric motility secondary to its anti-spasmodic effects. In this
study ginger was given in three doses (100,200 & 400 mg /kg) to
hypercholesterolaemic rats ,also it was given in doses(100,200 & 400 mg
/kg) to rats at 12 hours intervals for 48 hours prior to single overdose of
paracetamol (640 mg /kg ) to study its hypocholesterolaemic and
hepatoprotective effects on rats in vivo. Its antispasmodic effect was
studied on ACh-induced contractions in rat jejunum in vitro.
