Abstract
Hospitals have a vital role in serving community, and offering medical services in fields of clinical examination, and laboratory monitoring for detection of diseases, and treatment. Also, beside treatment hospital is a source for community health education as a part of preventive medicine to avoid infectious diseases. For these reasons’ hospitals are important for providing main services in the modern communities. l10wever Public health engineer is directed toward design and operation to provide healthful conditions for patients, staff, and visitor. Studies proved that physical environment of hospital represented in spaces, lighting, ventilation, and availability of safe water, and safe disposal of biomedical wastes- has direct effect on the individual and community health. The hospital sanitation assessment was based on the examined physical characteristic of the hospital environment, and then compared findings with applicable standards, codes, and guide lines. The study showed that the hospital situated in the middle of sharjah city, and has visible entrances from the main road. Hospital is near the Emirates transportation network, so it is reachable for those who live in sharjah city and in the other Emirates. The hospital site in Sharjah city away from the industrial area, and landfill, which they have potential source of pollution. Study showed that hospital had sufficient and ample area for future expansion. There are two entrances and sufficient receiving area opposite to the store, laundry, and kitchen, that help to increase the functionality of car movement for goods supply to hospital and remove the waste from the hospital. The study showed that the arrangements of departments in the hospital assure privacy, prevent or control transmission of the infectious diseases in the hospital. The department’s arrangement also increased the functionality of departments work, because the departments with interrelation work are grubbed in one zone. Also, it was found that the total area per bed in Al Qassemi Hospital equals to 62 m2. Where in UK it is equal to 61 m2, in USA it is ranged between 51-61m2, and in Europe it is equal to 42 m2. It is clear that the total area m2 per bed in Al Qassemi hospital was approximately equal to total area per bed in the mentioned countries.
