Abstract Algae are the first organisms on the earth arose more than 3.5 >n years ago in the ocean. Pollution defined as ”the presence, in environment, of significant amounts of unnatural substances of )rmally high concentrations of natural constituents at a level that je undesirable effects, such as bronchial irritation, corrosion or logical change”. Other definition of pollution is anything produced man can be considered at some time to be a pollution. Generally, levels of heavy metals are one of the worst pollutants ever known human, because they persist all time in the environment without jradation. Microorganisms (algae in specific) are capable of accumulating considerable amounts of heavy metals such as Fe, i, Cu, Co, Cr, Cd, Pb and Ni. This indicate that the possibility of ang marine and freshwater algae as bioindicators for metal pollution. In the present work investigated areas represent Lake Mariut (fresh ter environment), EI-Mex Bay [marine environment and Abu Talat »a (control site)]. Lake Mariut lying south Alexandria has become highly eutrophic Jy of water as the result of untreated wastes which include jricultural, industrial and sewage waste-water in varying proportions. |
