Abstract

The aim of the present study was to use potent bacterial species resistant to sticides and efficient in biodegradation of pesticides, with emphasis on verifying biodegradation process and the inhibition capacities for highly persistent Jorinated hydrocarbons on the growth of the selected bacteria. Five bacterial species it were previously isolated from Lake Mariut’s water and identified as P. cepacia, agglomerans, S. aureus, Arthrobacter sp., and E. coli were tested for their fcodegradation ability on DDT, DDE, lindane and endrin. The effect of these esticides as a mixture on the growth of the selected bacterial species was studied.
The Inhibitory Effects of the Selected Pesticides on Bacterial Growth
effect of pesticides as a mixture on the growth of the selected bacterial species *as studied. Results revealed the following points:
Jl. Dramatic reduction occurred in bacterial counts due to pesticides application in the culture compared to the control.
2. Both tested concentrations (0.05 and 50.0 ppm) reduced P. cepacia, E. agglomerans, S. aureus, Arthrobacter sp., and E. coli counts to more than 98.0% after 24 hours from application. The reduction was maintained (>95.0%) after ninety-six hours from pesticide application. These results indicated that, the presence of pesticide residue in wastewater strongly modefies bacterial growth
