Abstract

Fabric tightness is a complex equation of many parameters. These param eter s be yarn parameters, fabric parameters, and weaving machine parameters. Also
the fabric design and the number of intersections in one repeat and per unit area of the fabric have a great effect on fabric tightness. In this work, some properties of woven fabric with different float length were investigated. These woven fabrics produced are carried out at different weft densities, different weft counts, and different fabric designs. : The properties of the fabric, which were tested, were air permeability, fabric drapability, fabric abrasion, fabric tear strength, fabric crease recovery, fabric shrinkage, and fabric dust permeability. New equations were investigated to calculate specific tightness %, relative tightness factor, relative weight factor, and specific weight factor. It was found that the relative lightness factor which is proportional to (the intersections/ inch2) m;ix was recommended to be considered as the fabric tightness index. It can be also concluded that the relative tightness factor has a great influence on fabric properties. By increasing the relative tightness factor, air permeability, fabric drapability, fabric tear strength, angle of fabric crease recovery and fabric shrinkage decreased, while fabric abrasion resistance and filtration efficiency increased.
